Cactus Ultra-Ceramic Thermal Heater

Semiconductor | Medical | Automotive | Industrial

THE DETAILS ARE IN THE DESIGN

brochure
Cactus Materials has the engineering expertise and manufacturing capability to design innovative thermal heaters. Along with our exclusive manufacturing partners in Japan (world-class thermal heater manufacturers), we can custom design state-of-the-art thermal heaters to your needs. The Cactus Materials engineered ceramic thermal heaters excel in thermal uniformity as well as rapid temperature control.

The Highest Power Density in the World

Cactus Materials has made a breakthrough in engineering high performance ceramic thermal heaters with our patent-pending advanced technologies.
  • Ramp up rate of custom designed heaters can reach up to 1000°C/s.
  • Multi-layer (20+) lamination capability integrating RTD and heating elements (W, Mo).

Cactus Materials has modernized the boron nitride (BN) technology and its proprietary manufacturing expertise to be able to bring the Cactus Ultra-Ceramic thermal heaters to the north American market. Boron nitride (BN) has double the thermal conductivity than that of conventional ceramic heaters, like aluminium nitride (AlN), and superior materials selection is one of the major contributors to our breakthrough.

Boron nitride (BN) thermal heater with the highest power density (300 W/cm^2) and ramp up rate (500C/s). The BN heater has operating temperatures of up to 1600C. All of our heaters can be custom designed and manufactured to your needs.

Ultra-Ceramic Aluminium Nitride Heater

Specifications

Power density: 200 W/cm^2
Ramp up rate: 300 C/s
Picture
Pictured left is a compact AlN heater, one of the many form factors achievable with our manufacturing capabilities. This ceramic heater incorporates an AlN base for high thermal conductivity and demonstrates uniform heat distribution.
This heater is best suited for use in extreme environments with rapid heating and cooling requirements.
Conventional ceramic heaters with embedded elements require complex manufacturing processes which limit the ability to reduce costs. The Cactus Materials aluminium nitride hot plate features an electric heating circuit made by printing and baking a heating element pattern in a sintered ceramic base. While current maximum temperatures are approximately 680C, by altering the material of the element pattern, we are able to support even higher temperatures.

Advantages

  • Energy conserving:
    • Since the electrical resistance ratio of the element can be adjusted arbitrarily, Cactus Materials has the ability to design heaters to match the application in high or low temperature environments.
  • Rapid heating and cooling:
    • Aluminium nitride has great properties such as high thermal conductivity and durability to thermal shocks. Incorporating the material for these properties to the heater gives it rapid heating (200C/s) and cooling abilities.
  • Low cost:
    • The post-fire design allows production of prototypes, small lots, and mass production.

Cactus Ultra-Thin Micathermal Heaters

Conventional micathermal heaters can be used up to about 250°C to 300°C. We have developed a high temperature micathermal heater which is able to support temperatures up to 800°C. The high watt density enables rapid heating with improved response by increasing the output per unit area. We know that customers who are using conventional sheath heaters can use this product to solve issues related to heat distribution and heater thickness.

Benefits

  • Fast response
    • The thin (1 mm) mica sheets have low thermal capacity which enables for rapid heating.
  • Even heat distribution
    • The planar heating element distributes heat more evenly than sheath heaters
  • High heat efficiency
    • Because the heating element is planar, the surface area in contact with the object to be heated is large, making heating more efficient.

  • Space heaters
  • Press mold heaters

Jacket Heaters

The Cactus Materials jacket heater has efficient heating capabilities for small to large piping/equipment and has excellent heat resistance and is very safe for use. The piping maintainability is good as the heater can be removed and installed easily.
Cactus Materials has the ability to design and deliver products of the highest quality and performance in accordance with the customer's specific requirements. Heaters with complex shapes for any size of piping are available as well.

Advantages

  • The heating element is designed to have high reliability and excellent durability.
    • Heating elements with double insulation make it possible to ensure high insulating capacity and high mechanical strength after long term usage.
  • Operable in extreme conditions
    • The jacket heater is made of noncombustible inorganic materials and has heat resistance of approximately 800C.
  • High heat insulation
    • High heat insulating properties, approximately 1.5 times that of silicon rubber sponges at temperatures of 200C or less.
  • Easy machinability
    • Easy to cut (with scissors), punch, etc.
  • Good workability
    • Very lightweight, less than half of silicon rubber sponges.
